It’s been a busy Summer for the members of Killarney No Name Club. The club’s teenagers were active during the season helping the emergency service personnel in the town and also competing on the soccer pitch.
For the second year running, Killarney No Name Club played a very important role in the Kerry Emergency Services and Friends Charity Cycle. The members of the club were involved with the planning of the endeavour from the very start and were given the important responsibility of registration. This involved sorting the sponsorship cards and the money that was to be presented at registration. The members also followed the cycle as it travelled through towns throughout Kerry and they collected money for the two charities that were benefitting from the cycle: Kerry Mountain Rescue and Kerry Hospice. The money was subsequently counted and banked by the No Name Club.
On top of these duties, the teenagers also took charge of the event barbecue, which was held in Killarney Fire Station. The adult members assisted them with the cooking and over 400 people were fed the day of the cycle, June 5th. To date, €16,000 has been raised from the event for the two charities and the No Name Club has played a leading role in supporting the endeavour.
Killarney No Name Club is also busy supporting one of its adult committee members, Garda Damien Jermyn. In late September, Damien will undertake a walk in Poland to support people affected by breast cancer. As part of his fundraising efforts and to raise awareness of his walk, he came up with an idea to spray a car pink and push it through the main towns of Kerry (the car is pictured). The No Name Club members have pushed the car for Damien and also taken their collection buckets out to the streets to gather money for this excellent cause.
And not content with those endeavours, the club also took time to take part in the Killarney Athletic Football Club annual 7-a-side tournament. No Name Club reached the Under 16 final but one of our own came back to haunt us. Scott O’Mahony, a No Name Club member, scored the winner to break the hearts of his friends as Four Star Pizza ran out 2-1 winners. Mikey Coffey was the goalscorer for No Name Club.
